Overview

Birkman International, the leader in workplace assessments, is seeking a Content Developer.  The Training Content Developer for Birkman International, Inc. is responsible for the creation and maintenance of instructor-led and virtual courses needed to effectively certify new Birkman Professionals and support professional development through the learning cycle of their career. The candidate should have experience authoring e-learning (with Articulate or similar software product), be efficient in using the Adobe Creative Suite of programs for graphic design and page layout, have a solid understanding of instructional design principles, and be able to work effectively with SMEs to ensure that the authoring process results in a product that meets all learning objectives.

This position will be located at the offices of Birkman International, Inc. in Houston, Texas. Working from a remote location would be possible for up to 50% of the work week.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Create e-Learning to support the professional development needs of Birkman Certified Professionals
  • Develop projects to support new products, existing products and marketing/sales needs
  • Manage Instructional Design projects for non-digital distribution, i.e. Instructor-Led Training and toolkits produced for third-party delivery
  • Plan and execute delivery of Webinars by internal and external SMEs, including planning the content of future Webinars, assisting SMEs in creating in-brand presentations, and serving as host for live Webinars, and posting the recorded Webinar to the Birkman Learning System
  • Manage third-party authoring of content by creating a process they can follow to streamline the development timeline
  • Support publishing of all e-Learning product through the Birkman Learning System (currently hosted on Absorb)
  • Manage all printed training content used in classrooms including a repository of all current materials and documentation and a searchable archive of all legacy materials
  • Manage content posted on the Resource Center on Birkman.com through coordination with Marketing
  • Provide backup for the Birkman Learning System by cross-training to support business needs when the Training Coordinator is out of the office
  • Manage and support technology in the training room and for remote workshops and serve as the POC for all technical issues with the Information Technology team
  • Additional duties to support client needs may be assigned at any time 

Core Skills

Proficiency with content management software. Previous experience with Articulate preferred, but transferrable skills from another e-learning design product are acceptable. Demonstrated experience with Adobe Creative Suite products (in particular PhotoShop, Illustrator and InDesign) is required.

Formal training/knowledge of Adult Learning and Instructional Design principles. Certification as an Instructional Designer is not required.

Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. The Content Developer will manage multiple overlapping projects and needs to be able to successfully manage long-term and short-term activities so that all deliverables and deadlines are met.

Ability to work both independently and with a team. The Content Developer will be lead on several ad-hoc project teams, yet be responsible to direct production of content. The ability to balance their own production and participation in group deliverables will be critical.

Digital communication skills. With many projects being completed virtually, using authors and subcontractors for different parts of each project, the Content Developer must be able to effectively communicate through e-mail to deliver messages succinctly to reduce bounce-back that slows down the development process.

Written and verbal skills. The Content Developer will be working with many that are unfamiliar with the design process, and must be able to influence and patiently explain the purpose of the process 

Strategic thinking skills. Prioritization of activities to meet goals will be a critical part of the success of the Content Developer. Multiple competing priorities will require a focus to be able to keep tasks moving toward shared goals.

Analytical skills. The Content Developer will be responsible for tracking usage and effectiveness of projects and will have to be able to deploy assessments of learning and analyze the results of those assessments to ensure that each project is meeting its objectives.

Good eye for detail. As the SME on the look and feel of all e-learning and classroom projects, the Content Developer must have strong attention to detail so that all branding and design principles of the company are followed as well as functionality of the technical aspects of e-learning projects created.

Ability to flex to business needs. The Content Developer needs to be comfortable working in a high-change environment, where each member of the team may be asked to step into a short-term role that might be outside their area of expertise.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of Instructional Design experience (corporate environment preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years of utilizing software such as Word, PowerPoint, and Captivate. 
  • Minimum of 3 year of end-to-end instructional design project management / product launch experience.
  • Bachelor degree in Human Resource Development, Instructional Design, Education, or related field or equivalent experience. 

Compensation

  • Annual salary: Commensurate with experience.
